Land development
Irrigated agriculture is one of the main sectors of the economy of the Republic of Tajikistan, ensuring food security and employment of the rural population.
In order to develop new irrigated lands in the Republic of Tajikistan, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in its Resolution No. 450 of August 31, 2012 adopted the State program "On the development of new irrigated lands and rehabilitation of lands out of agricultural rotation for the period of 2012-2020". The main objective of this program is to restore fallow lands in the agricultural rotation and develop new irrigated lands in the country in 2012-2020. The implementation of this program will enable the development of 3,890 hectares of irrigated land and the introduction of 7,800 hectares to the agricultural rotation, in total 11690, which can lead to the creation of more than 50,000 new jobs in rural areas of the country. With the beginning of the implementation of the Program in 2012-2015, 893.3 hectares of new lands have been developed at the expense of the Agency's capital construction funds, including 436 hectares in 2012, 457.3 hectares in 2013-2015, and 390 hectares in 2017.
At the same time, it should be noted that in 2003 - 2011, 6,730.7 hectares of new irrigated lands were developed and introduced into the agricultural rotation. In general, in 2003 - 2017, 8,123 hectares of new lands were developed at the expense of the capital construction funds of the Agency. This allowed the creation of more than 32,400 new jobs.
In the period 2012 – 2017 improved provision of land with irrigation water on area of 11,850 hectares, thereby this allowed bringing back to the rotation the arable land which was out of it.
